The proposed location is perfectly placed beside the outdoor sporting pitches, athletics track, and is in close proximity to the secondary and primary schools - as well as being within walking distance of the town.

The vision to create the ultimate Sports & Recreation Hub for Claremorris is coming to fruition with development plans progressing to establish a Community Sports & Recreational Centre, alongside the various sports pitches at the Old Racecourse, just off the N60 on the main Castlebar Road.

This multipurpose facility will accommodate current pitch activities ongoing at the site by the various clubs such as the GAA, Soccer and Rugby with a convenient winter training option and a Wall-Ball. Other sports such as Basketball, Volleyball, Badminton, Futsal, Gymnastics, etc., will also be catered for.

As the ownership of Old Racecourse has for decades belonged to the Claremorris community, the new, fully accessible, Recreational Centre will also encompass organisations, associations and other bodies in the area, such as Youth Clubs and Senior Citizens. In addition, as the unit will be open all day and in the evenings, it will be used also by the Primary and Post-Primary schools. The Centre will be further maximised by hosting trade shows, art exhibitions and other social events.

A most significant element of the step-by-step progress made by the Claremorris Sports & Recreation Hub Committee was the generous contribution of the local GAA Club in donating the site for the project, which will be located adjacent to the newly developed playing pitch.

Further developments are in the pipeline for the whole Sports Hub arena, and will include a traffic management system, enhanced walking paths and cycleways, picnic areas, electric charge points and pathway lighting.
